Ludwig & Mayer · Private Capital Advisory
Beyond the
operating company
Your business created the wealth. In time, the properties, artworks and international assets held alongside it may come to serve ambitions of their own.
Let’s talk
The operating business may remain the principal source of a family’s wealth. Other assets can take on responsibilities alongside it, providing a home, a presence abroad, places and objects to enjoy, or something of lasting value to pass on.
Ludwig & Mayer helps clients find, acquire and sell significant properties, works of art and collections. We consider each opportunity in relation to the owner’s intentions and the wider picture of their private holdings.
Within our Private Clients practice, this approach is developed specifically for founders and business owners.
When the perspective changes
Separate decisions begin to shape a shared future.
Much of the family’s wealth may still be concentrated in the business, even as substantial liquidity becomes available outside it. Properties and artworks accumulate, often acquired in response to individual opportunities, without a common understanding of their role.
More countries, different ownership arrangements and changing family needs enter the picture. A home abroad may offer both a place to live and greater freedom of movement. A collection can grow from a personal interest into a responsibility that will eventually pass to someone else.
As the next generation becomes involved, it helps to establish what should be kept, what might be used differently and what could be allowed to go. We begin with what each asset means to its owner, whom it serves and which decisions now need to be made.
Seeing the connections
One family’s wealth.
More than one purpose.
01Property
A principal or second home, an international base, an income-producing property, an exceptional residence or a historic estate. We help with the search, comparison and preparation for acquisition or sale, considering family use and the responsibilities of ownership over time.

02Art and collecting
Focused sourcing, acquisition and the development of a collection. Where needed, we bring in specialists to examine provenance, authenticity, condition and the work’s artistic and market context. We also consider how it might eventually be passed on or sold.

03International access
Property searches across borders and carefully selected opportunities, informed by local expertise. Our FIABCI and other professional relationships, together with trusted local partners, help clients understand the market and the conditions of ownership.

04A basis for judgement
Research, sourcing, comparison and the coordination of due diligence. The history, documentation, ownership background and market context of a property or artwork all inform the decision. We involve the appropriate specialist wherever further expertise is needed.
05Continuity and choice
Family use, lasting ownership and the passage from one generation to the next. We consider the person who may one day inherit or care for an asset, the responsibilities they will take on, what can be preserved and when a sale may be appropriate.
A compelling opportunity still has to belong in your life.
Much of the value lies in understanding how a property or work of art fits within the family’s wider holdings. Personal intentions, use, upkeep and eventual transfer deserve as much attention as the opportunity itself.
